CICS is one of the world's most durable software products thanks to its ever-expanding capabilities, continuous and aggressive vendor support, large installed base, exceptional reliability, high performance, and huge variety of applications and tools. It is also a very secure system and functions at a high speed. (Many of these attributes depend on the zSeries platform.) CICS is used in bank teller applications, airline reservation systems, and hundreds of other diverse industries.

      "IBM's Customer Information Control System
was developed in 1968 and is still the most
        important mainframe transaction processing
software in the world."  --- Computerworld

ADS was developed in 1974 to allow programmers to know exactly what their code is doing at any point in the process. It is a package of integrated tools to provide both manual and automatic detection of events within the CICS application layer.

Some of the advantages of using ADS to help CICS mainframe programmers include:

      1. Improved efficiency: ADS provides a wide range of debugging features that can help CICS programmers identify and fix errors more quickly and efficiently. This includes the ability to set break-points, inspect variables, and view program execution in real-time.

      2. Enhanced visibility: ADS provides detailed information about the state of a CICS program as it is executing, including the values of variables and the contents of data structures. This can help programmers understand the root cause of errors and identify potential problem areas.

      3. Simplified debugging: ADS offers a user-friendly interface that allows programmers to easily navigate through their code and perform debugging tasks. It also integrates with other mainframe tools, such as file and data management systems, which can help streamline the debugging process.

      4. Improved collaboration: ADS supports multiple users, allowing CICS programmers to work together on debugging tasks and share their findings with one another. This can help improve the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the debugging process.
